We, at Kerala Movie Gallery developed a formula last year to analyse and evaluate all active Malayalam actors and actresses and it involves the box office performances, audience response and impact of all the Malayalam movie releasing after January 1,2018.
Among Malayalam actors, Mohanlal maintained the top spot in actors rankings despite having a bad year and dropping more than 9 points in our ratings. While, Megastar Mammootty reclaimed the second spot with impressive performances throughout the year reducing the deficit with Mohanlal to 11 points from 26 points at the start of 2022. Dulquer Salmaan dropped to the third spot with just one Malayalam release in the form of Salute. Fahad Faasil continued at fourth spot with Malayankunju. Prithviraj gained around 4 points throughout the year with some good box office success and impressive performances. He also reduced the gap with Fahad to under a point.
Outside the top 5, the biggest surprise has been the introduction of Suresh Gopi and Basil Joseph into top 5. Both of them were not even in top 15 at the start of the year. Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey's blockbuster run saw Basil leapfrog almost a dozen actors to get to the 10th spot.
Paappan and Mei Hoom Moosa got Suresh Gopi into the eight spot. Thallumaala saved Tovino Thomas from getting out of top 10. While Nivin Pauly's dismal run at box office saw him drop to 9th spot from 6th at the start of the year. Kunchako Boban, Vineeth Sreenivasan and Asif Ali improved their ratings throughout the year but couldn't break into the top 10.
Among Malayalam actresses, the year saw huge changes at the top as Kalyani Priyadarshan took the top spot gaining more than 20 points through blockbusters Hridayam, Thallumaala and her OTT success Bro Daddy. While her Hridayam co-star Darshana Rajendran also stormed her way into second spot with three impressive performances and superb box office performance of Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey. Nikhila Vimal dropped a spot to third despite gaining points. While Lady Superstar, Manju Warrier had a bad year where she dropped from first to fourth spot dropping almost 8 points.
Outside the top 5, Grace Antony's impressive performances throughout the year saw her rise to the eighth spot. While Aishwarya Lekshmi , Anaswara Rajan and Samyuktha Menon improved their ratings. Hannah Reji Koshy with two good performances in Theerppu and Kooman got into top 15.
Some stars also dropped out of top 15 in both categories. Soubin Shahir who started at 11th spot saw a big decline. Antony Varghese and Biju Menon also dropped to 23rd and 20th spots.
