Kerala Box Office Update (21.1.23)
1. Malikappuram - 32.78 Cr (22 days)
It takes back its no.1 spot at the box office from the new releases as it continues its epic run as families keep flowing in huge numbers even on weekdays. It started the weekend again on a high note and 35 Cr is a cakewalk and with it releasing in Tamil and Telugu soon, even 50 Cr can be achieved. All the eyes will be on how Unni Mukundan is going to use this new found star status for his upcoming films. In Kerala, it will most probably go past the 25 Cr mark by Sunday.
Kerala - 23.33 Cr

2. Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam - 1.69 Cr (2 days)
The LJP - Mammootty movie has got rave reviews and has taken a good start despite a weekday release and considering the genre. The film may easily end up in profit zone considering the low budget. But comparing the opening with last few films of Mammookka, it has started on a average note.
AVERAGE OPENING
3. Varisu - 11.01 Cr (10 days Kerala)
Thalapathy Vijay is one of the few stars who can get past the 10 Cr mark in Kerala despite negative reviews and he repeats the feat with Varisu after Beast. It also went past Beast's final numbers in Kerala but still the film will end up as a loss in Kerala.
FLOP
4. Ayisha - 0.16 Cr (Day 1)
Manju Warrier badly needs a hit after a disastrous 2022 but Ayisha starts on a low note despite good reviews. The film will need a miracle to stay afloat as the big Republic Day releases rush in from the midweek.
POOR OPENING
5. Poovan - 0.12 Cr (Day 1)
From a promising star at the box office to giving back to back disasters, Antony Varghese's fortunes have changed completely. Poovan is the third film of his to take a poor opening within two months and is almost heading to a similar fate as his previous releases.
POOR OPENING
6. Avatar 2 - 39.42 Cr (36 days Kerala)
It continues its run with limited shows and good numbers as it nears 40 Cr. It is all set for a long run in multiplexes similar to what Top Gun: Maverick did.

7. Thunivu - 4.05 Cr (10 days Kerala)
Thanks to the clash with Varisu, it got a better fate than Valimai in Kerala but is still far away from breakeven and adds to the list of Tamil biggies which have failed in Kerala in recent past.
